Hamilton:
The Equipment Fund

CCS Disability Action has created The Equipment Fund, using funds from a generous bequest from the late Brian George of Waihi. The fund is delivering better access to essential mobility equipment and daily living aids for disabled people in Waikato.

A man is testing a mobility scooter in an equipment store. Another man and woman are beside him.

Your Way | Kia Roha administers the grant scheme for The Equipment Fund through the Mobility Centre in Waikato. These grants provide fast and easy access to equipment that will improve access, comfort or ease in everyday living for those who cannot afford to purchase it. Grants range from $100 to $7,500.

The criteria for accessing the fund are as follows:

  • The purchase will improve the life of the person applying by improving access, comfort, or ease in everyday living.

  • The purchase cannot easily be covered by other funding e.g., government funding through Enable or a Lotteries Community Grant.

Note: Easily means failed in past, does not meet criteria or wait time or initial rejection is causing stress in a person’s life.

  • The person applying is a community services cardholder or has similar circumstances that suggest financial hardship. They have insufficient finances to cover all or part of the purchase.

  • The purchase requirement ranges from $100 to $7,500 and can be for multiple related items at a time.

  • One successful application per annum.
