CCS Disability Action announces sale of large Kamo Road property

26 August 2024

CCS Disability Action Northland has put its property at 291 Kamo Road, Whau Valley, Whangārei on the market. The sale of the property will be managed by Bayleys in the North Commercial and will be marketed as a deadline sale throughout September 2024.

It’s a welcome move for the organisation and follows extensive consideration by the organisation’s local governance committees and management.

“While it’s not been a decision we have taken lightly because we have had our roots here for a very long time, we feel it’s the right decision to see CCS Disability Action best serve the community in the years to come” explains General Manager Bettina Syme.

The property, which sits on a large site of 8933sqm includes several buildings, included tenanted offices to the rear of the property. However, the buildings require significant ongoing maintenance and have high running costs. The main office space was originally a hostel, so the layout does not suit modern-day office and accessibility needs.

CCS Disability Action Northland engaged SCOPE (formerly Griffiths and Associates) to explore various property options. After evaluating several possibilities, the organisation concluded that selling the property and purchasing or leasing a new location was the best course of action.

“We always have disabled people and whānau hauā sitting at the centre of our decision-making. It is important that we are careful stewards of all our resources, including property. We are hopeful for a sale and really looking forward to what comes next.”

Henry Napier, who is marketing the property is excited by the opportunity it provides potential buyers.

“291 Kamo Road is a substantial development opportunity in a mature Whāngarei suburb, representing one of the last significant underdeveloped parcels of land in the area. While the property has worked well for CCS Disability Northland in the past, the best use for the property is likely a more intensive development of the site which is supported by its underlying residential zoning. Future uses could include residential subdivision, retirement or accommodation.”

CCS Disability Action Northland is committed to ensuring uninterrupted services for the people it supports. A transition plan will be implemented once the sale is confirmed to minimise any potential disruption.

Until the property is sold, CCS Disability Action Northland will continue to operate from 291 Kamo Road, maintaining ‘business as usual.’
