This role is to coordinate the Branch response to the National Access Strategy, creating accessible and inclusive communities by affecting change to transport and built environments so that disabled people have access to the same opportunities as other New Zealanders. You will do this by promoting knowledge and understanding of environmental access issues and rights of disabled people; resolving barriers to full community participation for disabled people and whānau/family and by monitoring the development of new and modified environments to ensure full compliance with relevant codes.

To succeed you will need an understanding of inclusion and the disability sector as well as an ability to:

  • Advocate and lobby appropriately within different settings.

  • Think laterally and with a solution focus.

  • Initiate projects, and to work independently and in collaboration.

  • Interpret legislation and policy, to research, analyse and respond, including the writing of submissions.
