Barbara Haricharan

My name is Barbara. I’m originally from the UK however I have lived in Aotearoa New Zealand for nearly 20 years, so this is very much home.

Through my lived experiences of disability later in life, I have witnessed the barriers and challenges that face my current community. This perspective allows me to approach challenges with creativity, resilience, and empathy. It has inspired me to advocate for the disability community to be able to live their best lives. I am passionate about driving change that ensures accessibility and inclusion.

As a board member, I want to contribute meaningfully to creating environments that empower persons with disabilities to thrive. I am also committed to the CCS Disability Action strategic priorities and vision, Te Aronui.

I enjoy cooking and baking with my family as well as sewing. I also read, whenever I can, for pleasure as well as for my day job as a school librarian.
